When you are considering your kitchen window design, there are several key mistakes that some people make.  However, the biggest is to treat their kitchen windows just like all the other windows in their home.  Unfortunately this often leads to excessive curtain cleaning bills or greasy fingerprints all over the fabric.  But there are many kitchen window treatment ideas that are perfect for your style and the room’s needs.

If the style of your kitchen is a little more simple and low key, then some of the best kitchen window treatments will be the fancy ones.  These will add some flair and elegance to the room, while being perfectly suited for that room.  For example, is the rest of the design in the room is a very neutral color, you might try a valance that is trimmed in a bold design, like plaid.  To add some extra elegance, get an overlay of tassels that mirror the colors of the kitchen window valance.  And since valances are typically not very long, the elegant treatment will remain safe from any water or food splashes.

A cornice treatment is another in the list of great kitchen window treatment ideas.  Basically a cornice treatment is a fabric-covered board that sits along the top of the window.  If you like you can also add some sheer fabric curtains that can easily be pulled back and kept out of the way.  Cornice boards are also fabulous if you want to cover up awkward looking window hardware or if the window frame isn’t the nicest looking.  Best of all, they are on the top of the window so there will be no accidents.

Another type of valance idea is perfect for kitchen window treatments.  It is a valance curtain but is layered somewhat, to create a puffier look.  Think of how your blinds fold up and that’s about how it works, but since it’s fabric it creates a much fuller look.  Once again it will keep the curtains out of harm’s way but you can be as fancy or as simple as you like.

The absolute simplest and cheapest kitchen window treatment is a simple set of window blinds.  But, you customize them with fabric or ribbon ties that match the rest of your style.  The best way to do this is to leave the blinds about halfway open and attach the ribbon to the curtain rod, draping it down and tying a bow around the bottom end.  This does work best with blinds that won’t need to be opened and closed daily or the ribbon will quickly fray.

The main rule when considering kitchen window treatment ideas is to remember to keep them short.  Floor-length curtains are not for the kitchen.  As long as the curtains won’t be damaged the first day you put them in, you can get as fancy or as simple as you like
